ARUS: A Cross-Border Malay Literary Collaboration

ARUS is a cross-border Malay poetry zine that brings together 14 emerging writers from Singapore and Malaysia, featuring 28 original works that explore contemporary experiences, perspectives and concerns of a new generation. Produced by Kamelia Co. (Singapore) in collaboration with Meja Conteng (Singapore) and Kultus Kata (Malaysia), and supported by the National Arts Council, the project was conceived as a ground-up initiative to create opportunities for emerging Malay literary voices to be published, discovered and appreciated beyond their respective borders.

More than a publication, ARUS represents an ongoing exchange of ideas, creative practices and experiences between literary communities in both countries. Launched in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in November and December 2025 respectively, the project brought together writers, readers and arts practitioners through poetry readings, dialogue and community gatherings. The collaboration has since strengthened regional connections and opened possibilities for further literary exchanges and joint initiatives, reflecting Kamelia Co.'s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and building meaningful partnerships within the wider Nusantara literary landscape.
